At its core, a heat pump uses a refrigerant cycle and four key components: compressor, evaporator, condenser, and expansion valve

Compresses refrigerant – Raising pressure and temperature so it becomes a hot gas.
Releases heat inside – The hot gas passes through the indoor coil, warming your home and condensing to a liquid.
Cools and reinvigorates – After expanding and cooling outside, the refrigerant absorbs more ambient heat, and the cycle continues.
